Casio Men's MTG900DA-8V G-Shock MT-G Atomic Tough Solar Watch Review

I've owned various G Shock watches for maybe 20 years. They're tough and dependable. I like these solar atomic watches. The good points about this particular watch include absolutely great looks, initially. Dependable, versatile G Shock functionality. If you really use this watch physically like I do, that great looking thin vapor-deposited finish wears off after about 6 months to reveal tacky plastic and base metal infrastructure on the watch itself, though the metal band stays looking good. My complaint about the metal band is that I need a watch to stay tight all the time and not flop around on my wrist. As a wrist diameter expands and contracts with normal physiologic variation, the metal band can get too loose (or too tight) and it's not simple to make quick readjustments as it is with the resin band. The notches between segments of the metal band can catch on things, and I've been concerned that I could tear it off, but it has proven pretty tough. I'm a runner and use the stop watch a lot. (If I get any older and slower I'll need a wrist calendar.) My big gripe about ALL G shock watches and the big reason I've replaced every one of the dozen or so I've owned is that one or more of the function buttons falls off leaving a tiny and difficult-to-use push rod stump. The one I'm wearing now is no exception. I also wish the watch had a count down function. I used to use that function all the time on some of my earlier G Shocks. Finally, they are bulky and don't fit well under a buttoned cuff on a long sleeve shirt. On balance, I prefer the functionality of the resin bands. But I have learned not to shower with them on. The soap gradually affects the integrity of the resin, making the resin more brittle, and the band suffers premature breakage. I used to change resin bands about twice before the function buttons fell off. When I quit wearing them in the shower, the bands lasted longer. The metal band has lasted the longest for me. Final word...dependable, tough, hard working, very useful, but if you're hard-working and really use this watch like its meant to be used, its bulk can get in your way, and the longevity is limited by less-than-robust peripheral structures (buttons and bands.)...Read More
